Steve J Bayer’s Summary

As a brand crafter, I select and/or structure the best approaches to expand brand recognition, strengthen consumer relations and when applicable, increase the consumption rates (including sales) of produced wares such as applications, products and services.

As an experience/interaction designer, I design applications, products and services to have maximized rates of consumption while being desirable and easy to learn and use.

When the opportunity presents itself, I voluntarily provide my skills and expertise to open source initiatives and related initiatives which benefit events and activities that support social awareness on issues such as health and safety.

Steve J Bayer’s Specialties:

I design solutions for communication and interface/interaction related issues at consumer contact points to increase: stakeholder satisfaction, consumer loyalty and where applicable, consumption rates of applications, products and services.

Designing to improve consumer and stakeholder experiences for increasing consumer consumption and consumer loyalty.

    As a brand crafter:
    Analyze, Formulate, Plan and/or Strategize:
-Approaches to consumers/customers/clients at online and on location contact points (exhibition stands, retail displays, kiosks, showrooms, etc...) for communication and relationship building activities to increase consumption rates of produced wares.

    Designing for an Experience:
-Perform In-depth User Research and Analysis based on client provided market research summaries to find (within specific market demographics) consumer goals and needs within specific environments (residences of consumers, showrooms, websites etc...) that can be addressed by clients.
-(Description of further steps in the experience design process is to be added.)

    Designing for an Interaction:
-Illustrate the layout of an application's or a website's compartmental spaces while describing the responses of their interactive elements.
-(Description of the process for designing on location activities is to be added.)

I complimentarily provided the above services (indirectly) while performing my prior job role (which I continue to perform on rare occasions) as a Part Time CSS/XHTML Design Converter.

  • Part Time CSS/XHTML Design Converter for CMS managed websites

    Independant Consultant

    (Information Technology and Services industry)

    January 2008Present (2 years )

A part time occupation transforming client provided designs (Photoshop templates or Fireworks PNGs) into Drupal website themes and Wordpress website themes as well as adding client approved improvements to designs.

In addition to CSS/XHTML design implementation services, I have provided additional services (on request) which includes (but are not limited to:)
-Advanced module installation and configuration services.
-White Hat Search Engine Optimization including Link Building and SEO of Website Themes.
-Social Media Communication services on Twitter and Facebook fan pages.

During the time frame that I had been a part time CSS/XHTML Design Converter for CMS managed websites, I have been researching Experience Design and User Experience Design (UXD) philosophies, their related principles and processes while developing Wireframe Design and Functional Specification Documentation methodologies in Fireworks CS 3 and Visio 2007.

Apart from providing commercial services, I occasionally contribute my skills and expertise as a natural born Interaction Designer to open source groups:
-Natural User Interface group (joined Jan 2009)
-Drupal's Usability group (joined Jan 2008)

One of my contributions to the Drupal project, in Early 2008, was the selection and design of an interface enhancement to make content entry forms easier to read, understand and use. A few details:
-The interface enhancement is called 'Vertical Tabs'
-Vertical Tabs has been developed and released as an add on module for Drupal 6 since Summer 2008.
-Vertical Tabs is included in the shipped version of Drupal 7 which is scheduled for release in 2010.
-Joakim Stai and Roy Scholten (in my connections list) are key Drupal Community Members who facilitated the development and inclusion of the Vertical Tabs interface enhancement in Drupal 7.
-Over 200,000 websites use Drupal as their CMS Platform including (since Autumn 2009) the official website for the White House in the USA.

  • Remotely Located, Junior User Experience Designer

    Ms. Deena Varshavskaya

    (Internet industry)

    June 2007August 2007 (3 months)

Introduced to and meticulously trained in Wireframe Design and Functional Specification Documentation in Visio 2007.

While employed as a remotely located, full time information architect with a focus on user experience design principles of the related client brands:
-I addressed issues in the navigational architecture of consumer facing websites to improve on-site (and cross-site) navigation and product purchase flows while increasing brand and product recognition for website members and visitors.

While I didn't want to leave and could have done the above work for longer than 3 months, there were health issues with being remotely directed from a time zone with over 10 hours of difference.

To avoid health issues, I decided to to find work that I could handle on my own or strictly short term work from a remotely located project lead or long term work directed by a project lead within a more comfortable timezone or work that I could perform within location of the project lead/client/consumer.

I received an Associates yet attended the entire 4 year Bachelors Degree curriculum in International Business Administration.

For Project Management and Team Co-Ordination related courses:

-Proven success as a task leader for team related projects with team members of variable aptitudes and skills.
-Consistently scored highest for 'presentation quality' by applying advanced knowledge of Power Point slide presentation techniques to create visually impressive and dynamic presentations.
-Applied innate understanding of information design to produce note worthy and memorable presentations.

    Activities and Societies:
    Bi-Annual Newsline Layout Co-ordinator
  • Al Nahda National Schools

    1999

For my International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) from the University of Cambridge, London, I scored:

2 A's in Economics and Math
2 B's in Computer Science and Physics
    1 C in French

    Activities and Societies:
I was in some General Knowledge quiz at the Center of American Education in Abu Dhabi.

I didn't win that one but Al Nahda School permitted me to participate in it because I was in the 2nd runner up team (I was the one answering the questions while the other guy hit the buzzer on time and my team mate and I only lost to the winning team, who had a cyborg on it, during the semi-finals) for 2 man teams at the last ever Block Busters quiz in the U.A.E and I got to shake the hand of Bob Holness :)
